Weekend Reading – “Gold: OK, We’ve Reached Ludicrous Speed” Edition

by Darwin on November 14, 2009

Any time I can sprinkle in a Spaceballs reference, I take full advantage of the opportunity.  With gold continuing its ascent to record levels (in terms of US Dollar mind you), gold bugs are basking in their glory while others scratch their heads and wonder why this relatively useless material continues to appreciate in value.

A few of my favorite reads from the prior week:

Personal Finance

Get Rich Slowly: Anti Stuff Holiday Gift Guide – I’m a big believer in spending money on life experiences rather than the acquisition of material things.  We don’t necessarily live that way because my wife doesn’t totally agree and marriage is a two way street.  But if you’re like me, this is a real neat article.

Tax Vox: Winners and Losers in the Proposed Two-Tiered System of Health Subsidies

BillShrink: Gas Price map of the US – neat.

Wealth Pilgrim: How To Find A Job – Even If You Have An Ugly Resume

Investing

Steadfast Finances: Traders Know it’s a Gold Bubble, Why Don’t You?

Goldman Sachs head says banks are doing “God’s Work” – I just thought this was too funny not to include.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate banks and bankers.  I think there were a lot of bad actors and there was poorly conceived risk-taking all over (including our politicians who played a part in the bubble formation), but what a goofy thing to say when in the cross-hairs and about to hand out close to 1 Million per Employee in Bonuses this year (so say the pundits).
